Innovative Ingestibles at the Northside Marketplace (3 of 6)

In this blog series we will continue to learn about some of the Creatives of All Things Tasty who also happen to be vendors at an entrepreneurial co-op located at 21 Furnace Street in Akron. Today, the focus again is on some spectacular sweets, which you can find inside the Northside Marketplace. Meet Takila of Essential Dipped Delights and Kristin (and Bob) of Sweet Bean.

What made you decide to start a business?

I had been working hard for other companies and I was tired of working for someone else. I decided I was going to work hard for myself and start my own business. I loved making chocolate-covered strawberries as a hobby. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit so I decided to make my hobby into my business once I realized my customers really enjoy my products. I applied for my LLC in March of 2015 and Essential Dipped Delights was born.

What inspires your creativity?

My customers. I love beauty and I really enjoy creating beautiful and edible desserts that captivate my audience visually first. When I create treats, I just go with the flow and go where my mind takes me. I love vibrant colors that pop.  I also enjoy creating custom desserts that are different, sweets that you will not usually find at any other shops.

What’s next and where is Essential Dipped Delights headed?

I want to teach my children the importance of working hard as well as working for themselves. At the moment, I am helping my daughter create a line of treats for kids – Saige’s Tummy Yummies. I would like to grow my business with more catered events, corporate accounts, online sales, and ship globally. In five years, I see myself with multiple locations.

What have you always wanted to do creatively?

I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I’ve always wanted to get into the fashion industry and have a clothing line, but I’ve never pursued it. However, my son Grant is developing a clothing line so in my spare time, I plan to help him.

How do you appreciate art locally?

I enjoy live music and spoken word. When an artist brings their vision to light it’s very intriguing. I love seeing the passion behind artists’ work.
