Nicole’s Nook: #GivingBackTuesday – It’s Not Just a #Hashtag

Join me for lunch at Our Akron Art Museum, #GivingBackTuesday

nicole-mullet-executive-director-artsnowThis week, the Akron Art Museum announced that it will reopen its doors to the public on Tuesdays from 11am to 5pm for the first time since 2009.   This is wonderful news for our community because expanded hours means expanded access. It showcases the kind of commitment to our community that makes my heart happy- because this isn’t happening for an elite few, it is for all of us.

As usual, my friend and colleague Akron Art Museum John S. Knight Executive Director and CEO Mark Masuoka said it best.

“You are invited. You belong here.”

“Being able to reopen the museum to the community on Tuesdays is an expression of joyous revival for us. During the economic downturn in 2008-09, we were forced to reduce our hours of operation. Now we will restore those hours, and we’re going to spread our welcome message far and wide, because this museum and the art that we exhibit is for everyone.”

This is our Akron Art Museum, my friends. It is a space for us to find respite, feed our soul, enjoy with friends, and engage with our kids.  You do not have to be an art history major or know All Of The Smart Words. You don’t even have to like everything you see. (That’s right…you’re allowed! Part of the fun is the discovery!)

Mark and his team are committed to providing space for all of us and they want to kick-off this new effort by saying ‘thank you’ to the community they serve.

On Tuesday, November 28th the museum will host #GivingBackTuesday as a way to launch the new hours and thank Akron for its support.  And I think this is worth celebrating with all of you.

Bring your own lunch or grab something from the Cafe and join me for lunch on the 28th at the Akron Art Museum.  Let’s join the celebration!
