Knight Arts Challenge Back in Akron

Greeting, creative Akronites!

The Knight Arts Challenge, offering a share of $1 million to fund the best ideas for the arts in Akron, officially opens on July 1.

During the July 1-31 application period, Knight Foundation will host two informational webinars with Arts Program Officer Adam Ganuza on Thursday, July 1 at 1 p.m. ET (RSVP) and Monday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m. ET (RSVP).

Plus, members of the Knight Arts team will be available for virtual office hours to answer questions about the process or to provide feedback on pitching ideas.

Community Workshops with ArtsNow

You can also join a Community Workshop to learn from past winners and discuss your submission ideas.

Community Workshop #1: July 19th at 5PM
East Ave Market in Kenmore (RSVP here)

Community Workshop #2: July 21st at 5PM
The Backyard at the Exchange House in North Hill (RSVP here)

Knight will fund ideas from local artists and arts organizations in these cities who are asked to answer this question in 150 words or less: “What is your best idea for the arts in either Akron, Detroit or Miami?”

Submission Rules

There are two rules for submissions:

  1. The idea must be about the arts
  2. The project must take place in or benefit Akron, Detroit or Miami

From the initial pool of applicants, a group of finalists will be chosen in each city to elaborate on their ideas. The winners, who will be announced in the fall, will share up to $2 million in Miami and Detroit and $1 million in Akron to bring their ideas to life.
