Get Your Art On With smART Studio

Written By Erika Newcome, Intern

Last week I had the opportunity to explore Akron’s locally owned and operated, smART Studio.

The multi-arts studio offers a variety of enrichment workshops, and provides creative opportunities for individuals of all ages, regardless of their skillset.

“My classes are designed to emphasize discovery and creativity, to help individuals enhance their creative thinking and problem-solving skills,” said Jennifer Davis, smART Studio owner and educator.

Prior to opening smART Studio, Jen earned a Bachelors in Visual Arts from The University of Akron and an Ohio Educator License in Visual Arts PreK-12. Soon after, Davis accepted a position to teach visual arts in public schools within the Northeastern Ohio community.

Five years later, she found herself wanting more. Inspired by local entrepreneurs, Davis opened the doors of her very own studio. She now teaches both public and private multi-arts workshops varying from, drawing and painting to fiber arts and ceramic workshops.

“I love my job, I’m constantly learning from my students. Every day I get to watch them learn, while my students watch me learn,” said Davis.

Drop in almost every Wednesday for Wake and Make Wednesday’s hosted by the Coloring Club from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. There’s really no better way to start your day, than with coloring, coffee, and conversation!
